At an early age, Earlene could be found at the piano playing the “great hymns of faith” at her father’s church.

Her growth as a Christian musician, led her to play and sing in churches and Gospel groups throughout her life.

Over the years, Earlene perfected her craft through gospel training and workshops, including several with the

esteemed Reverend Dr. James Cleveland. She has played piano since the mid-1960s for several choirs at

Emmanuel Baptist Church in San Jose.

Her touring career began with a quintet, the Gospel Heralds in the 1970s and 1980s, where many venues were

blessed by the powerful vocal and musical talent of the five women of God. During the late 1980s and early 1990s,

the group became a trio with Faye Norman, Berry Hayes and Earlene P. Davis. They sang for many events at local

churches including musicals in the Bay area. The group evolved into JOY, where they formed a Gospel quartet,

featuring Earlene P. Davis, Faye Norman, Marilyn Y. Brown and Karen Colbert.

The plethora of Gospel songs God overflows into her heart are the result of her daily quiet time with Him. The many songs God inspires her to write led her to produce and host two “Share Love” concerts in 1996 and 1998 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in San Jose.

In 2001, the “San Jose Concert of Love” took place at Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose using all original songs composed and arranged by Earlene. The event was sponsored by the Santa Clara Valley Baptist Association under the leadership of the Director of Missions.

Because of her love for children and because of the many children’s songs she has composed over the years, the “You Are My Example” CD sung by a children’s ensemble was birthed. This CD was produced and released in August 2006. The “You Are My Example” debut live concert was performed by an eighty-two voice children’s choir in January 2007. It was a fun-filled and blessed affair. [Insert 30 sec. video clip of concert.]

Later, she completed the “You Are My Example” songbook which was released in December 2007. The songbook includes all the music and lyrics from the CD and would be a delightful addition to any children’s choir library.

“Shine,” Earlene’s latest children’s ensemble music CD features 18 original songs of God’s love for the most innocent ones among us. Several songs were also performed in an original children’s theatrical production by Dr. Brenda Childress, called “God’s Great Creation.”

For Earlene, music expresses her heart to God. As a composer, she takes truths from God’s word and puts them into melodies. The message of each song is universal, touching the hearts of men, women, boys and girls around the world. For her, it is a privilege and an honor to serve God and share the “riches of Jesus Christ” with the world through the many songs He has given her.

In addition to her prodigious output of music, Earlene retired from IBM after thirty years of service. She has been married to her devoted husband for over 50 years, has a son and daughter-in-law and is the proud grandmother of three adorable granddaughters and one darling grandson.

Earlene P. Davis

"The music is upbeat, the message is inspirational and the Lord is glorified!  You will be blessed as you listen and sing along."

Joy

In 1996, the gospel singing group, JOY, was formed by Earlene Davis and included the vocal talents of Faye Norman, Marilyn Y. Brown and Karen Colbert. These four women of God sang at local churches, women’s conferences, funerals, weddings, banquets and convalescent homes while participating in the choirs of their home churches. Their commitment to Christ was expressed in JOY’s heartfelt desire and prayer to glorify the Lord in song, lead someone to Christ through music ministry and bless those who heard them with restored hope and renewed joy.
